    An Empirical Investigation of Bidding Strategies and Their Effects on Online Single-Unit Auctions

    Online bidding strategy is one of the most discussed topics in online auction research. This research aims to empirically confirm online bidding strategies in single-unit auctions and evaluate these strategies in the context of auction winning outcome, final price evaluation, and perceived enjoyment. Both objective and subjective data of online single-unit auctions were collected to validate our postulated hypotheses. Our findings suggest that there are three basic bidding strategies in single-unit auctions and they indeed have different impacts on auction biddings

    Antecedents of Behavioral Intention of Virtual Community Participation: An Empirical Study

    Virtual communities (VCs) have emerged as a new form of business model in the electronic business field. Understanding the motivations behind members’ participation is essential for VC organizers. VC participation behavioral intention is a major factor to shape VC participation behavior and it is very important to investigate factors influencing VC behavioral intention. Using the Triandis model of interpersonal behavior, this paper investigated antecedents of behavioral intention to participate in VCs. The results showed that affect, social factors, and perceived consequences are effective in explaining the behavioral intention to participate in VCs. The result also raised the issue of different types of communities’ interaction effects on different strength of relationships

    Examining ERP Committee Beliefs: A Comparison of Alternative Models

    Various models have been proposed to explain information technology (IT) adoption behavior. However, these models are based primarily on logical deliberation. In reality, it is impossible to obtain perfect information for a rational evaluation of new or emerging IT. In this situation, sometimes the “best alternative” is imitation. We believe that two opposing forces influence the beliefs of enterprise resource planning (ERP) committee members: rational and imitative. We propose here an integrated model and examine it together with diffusion of innovation (DOI) and imitation models. The study findings indicate that our integrated model has better explanatory power. In addition, imitative forces are shown to have a consistent direct effect and significant indirect effect on beliefs. Hence, imitative forces play a crucial role in the decision-making process, which opens up a new avenue for research into technology adoption

    A Proposed Model for the Investigation of Imitation Behavior on ERP Adoption

    In the proposed project, we will investigate the imitation effect on technology adoption using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems as an example. This approach will offer a completely new perspective on IT adoption as a less rational behavior, even for critical ERP investment at the organizational level. Along with this investigation of the imitation-adoption relationship, our research will evaluate the moderating effect of experience on imitation behavior. We believe that imitation behavior will be strongest when an organization is considering ERP for initial adoption. However, when an organization has accumulated „experience‟ of ERP over time, its adoption of subsequent ERP modules will probably follow a more rational decision process, as explained by traditional adoption theories

    Photoelectrochemical H2 Evolution with a Hydrogenase Immobilized on a TiO2-Protected Silicon Electrode.

    The combination of enzymes with semiconductors enables the photoelectrochemical characterization of electron-transfer processes at highly active and well-defined catalytic sites on a light-harvesting electrode surface. Herein, we report the integration of a hydrogenase on a TiO2-coated p-Si photocathode for the photo-reduction of protons to H2. The immobilized hydrogenase exhibits activity on Si attributable to a bifunctional TiO2 layer, which protects the Si electrode from oxidation and acts as a biocompatible support layer for the productive adsorption of the enzyme. The p-Si|TiO2|hydrogenase photocathode displays visible-light driven production of H2 at an energy-storing, positive electrochemical potential and an essentially quantitative faradaic efficiency. We have thus established a widely applicable platform to wire redox enzymes in an active configuration on a p-type semiconductor photocathode through the engineering of the enzyme-materials interface

    A dedicated reconstruction algorithm to find decay vertices in the ATLAS muon spectrometer is presented. The algorithm searches the region just upstream of or inside the muon spectrometer volume for multi-particle vertices that originate from the decay of particles with long decay paths. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated using both a sample of simulated Higgs boson events, in which the Higgs boson decays to long-lived neutral particles that in turn decay to bbar b final states, and pp collision data at √s = 7 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2011

    Measurements of Higgs boson production and couplings in diboson final states with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

    Measurements are presented of production properties and couplings of the recently discovered Higgs boson using the decays into boson pairs, H →γ Îł, H → Z Z∗ →4l and H →W W∗ →lÎœlÎœ. The results are based on the complete pp collision data sample recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the CERN Large Hadron Collider at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 7 TeV and √s = 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 25 fb−1. Evidence for Higgs boson production through vector-boson fusion is reported. Results of combined ïŹts probing Higgs boson couplings to fermions and bosons, as well as anomalous contributions to loop-induced production and decay modes, are presented. All measurements are consistent with expectations for the Standard Model Higgs boson

    Measurement of the top quark pair cross section with ATLAS in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV using final states with an electron or a muon and a hadronically decaying τ lepton

    A measurement of the cross section of top quark pair production in proton-proton collisions recorded with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV is reported. The data sample used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 2.05 fb -1. Events with an isolated electron or muon and a τ lepton decaying hadronically are used. In addition, a large missing transverse momentum and two or more energetic jets are required. At least one of the jets must be identified as originating from a b quark. The measured cross section, σtt-=186±13(stat.)±20(syst.)±7(lumi.) pb, is in good agreement with the Standard Model prediction
